This is virtually your homework. This is also a major grade and will contribute to your success in this class. Please read this page carefully, as it will be graded on a rubric.
Directions: All of your in-class notes for each chapter that we go through will be designated by color. I will assign which chapter is deemed what color. Please buy in bulk. Consider purchasing a small portfolio or a large sturdy rubber-band to keep all notecards tidy and in order. (Click here for examples: Box for index cards;Colored case for index cards; Each chapter of note cards are worth 100 Major points. I will be checking at each Unit Test.
*For example: Chapter 2 = pink, Chapter 3 = yellow, Chapter 4 = green, Chapter 5 = blue, Chapter 6 = purple, . I will have examples provided for you.
Guidelines:
Index cards must be 5x7 in size and must be nicely organized in folder or box when turned in.
Each chapter you’ll be assigned multiple images. It is your responsibility to print the images off the teacher’s website. They are to be explained in depth. Please click on the Chapter/Slides Tab for images.

They should be in chronological order when turned in.
All images on index cards should be colored, clear, and non-distorted.
All information on index cards must be legibly hand-written, NOT typed.
Index cards are to be created OUTSIDE OF CLASS (HOMEWORK), not in class. The purpose of creating index cards is for study outside of class.
Each class, I will assign you an image(s) for homework. Please do not wait till the due date to complete all!
Cards are due at each Unit Test.
Mrs. Rollino reserves the right to deny any or all notecards.

What needs to be on Index Cards:
Include the CREDIT LINE. Every single artwork will have one and it contains all the basic information. Name of the artist Title of the artwork- sculpture and any 2D works are ALWAYS underlined if hand written. Architecture is NOT underlined. Date- When was it created? Period/Movement- When? Cultural and time reference Original Location- Where is the original setting? Temple, church, domestic space, hospital, palace... Location- Where is it now? Patron- Did someone pay for this to be created? Material/Technique (media)- The material is WHAT it's made of. The technique is HOW it's made.
Information about the artwork concerning the following should also be included on every flashcard. The amount of information will vary within each category accordingly and will depend on the complexity of the artwork itself. CONTENT- What can you see? What is the subject matter? FORM- Finer details. The Elements of Art and Principles of Design CONTEXT- WHY? What was happening during this time that caused this piece to be created? Political, Economic, Religious, Social, Intellectual, Art FUNCTION- What is its purpose? What was it made to be used for, or do? >>> U.R.P.H.E.I.A. look below. STYLE- How are you able to tell the artwork can be classified by a particular artist, culture, period, art movement, etc…? MEANING- What led up to the creation of this piece? How did this work reflect the ideas during this time in history, and allow it to be a product of its time? What is the meaning of the artwork?
U.R.P.H.E.I.A. (function) CONTEXT can very much determine the function. What is the intended purpose? Artworks can usually fall under one or more of the following categories. 1. UTILITARIAN – functional or useful items (i.e. containers, furniture, jewelry, etc.) 2. RELIGIOUS- items made for worship, veneration, ceremonies, rituals, festivals, procession, or burial rites. 3. POLITICAL- items meant to comment on social or political issues; wars, social injustice, propagandizing leaders or to change public opinion. 4. HISTORICAL- records historical events 5. ECONOMIC- art made for financial gain or as a result of a wealthy patron. 6. INFORMATIONAL- to teach or inform; carry on a cultural tradition or moral to future generations. 7.AESTHETICS- for the joy or search for beauty, art for arts sake.
